A tow wrecker hauling a tractor trailer truck collided with a tractor trailer truck, closing down Interstate 78 in Tilden Township for one hour on Nov. 23.

State Police Hamburg report that at 4:32 p.m. on Nov. 23 at mile marker 29.6 on Interstate 78 in Tilden Township, Charles Baker, 42, Westfield, was driving eastbound on I-78 in the area of the Route 61 on-ramp when eastbound traffic in the right lane began to slow for merging traffic. Baker, driving a tow wrecker hauling a tractor trailer truck, failed to see the slowing vehicles in time. He swerved into the left lane and struck a tractor trailer truck traveling in left lane, driven by Geina Shoemaker, 51, Palmerton.

Shoemaker was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center for possible minor injuries. Baker was not injured.

After the crash, the tractor trailer being towed became stuck on Shoemaker’s truck. The tow wrecker was able to lift the stuck truck off the other truck. Shoemaker’s truck was towed from the scene by Trall Towing.

Hamburg Fire Department, Shoemakersville Fire Department, Shartlesville Fire Department and Hamburg EMS assisted at the scene.

I-78 eastbound was shut down for about one hour until the involved vehicles were cleared from the interstate.
