Nov. 30Symphony discussion: Rusty Banks, composer and guitar instructor at Millersville University, will discuss the next concert of the Reading Symphony orchestra which features world-renowned guitarist Jason Vieaux. Banks will lead the discussion Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Highlands of Wyomissing beginning at 7:30 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by Penn State Berks and the symphony League. The concert performance Saturday Dec. 3 will also feature works by Brahms and Dvorak.

Dec. 2-3Howliday events: Furry Friday at The Humane Society of Berks County on Friday, Dec. 2, then visit Santa Paws at The Humane Society of Berks County and The Humane League of Lancaster County on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a Howliday Open House that is sure to please pets and humans alike. Santa Paws will be visiting the shelters from noon to 4 p.m. to take photographs with families and their furbabies. Dec. 3Santa kids workshop: On Saturday Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Exeter Home Depot will hold its annual Santa kids workshop. Santa will arrive via fire truck at approximately 9:15 a.m. All kids will receive a free 4 x 6 photo with Santa. Families are welcome to bring their own cameras and take as many photos as they want. This is a free event and open to the public with no purchase necessary.

Dec.3-4Holiday Craft Show: The 35th Annual Daniel Boone Optimist Club will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It features quality handcrafted Items by more than 120 crafters. The events takes palce at Daniel Boone Middle School, 1845 Weavertown Road in Douglassville. Free Admission – Free Parking. Refreshments will be available. Dec. 4Community Christmas Charity Celebration: at Schwarzwald Lutheran Church Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. The Ringgold Band will perform in the Church Sanctuary at 250 Church Lane Road, Reading, PA. Food will be available for purchase from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30.p.m. The price of admission is a new toy to be donated to Exeter Food Pantry families or scarves, hats and gloves for homeless veterans served by Eric’s Angels. Other donation sites are Community UCC, St.Lawrence, Exeter Veterinary Hospital, Reformation Lutheran, Reiffton, Schwarzwald UCC, Church Lane Road in Jacksonwald, St. John’s Lutheran Chruch , Gibralter, VIST Financial and Wood to Wonderful.

Dec. 9-10Antietam High School Footlights Drama Club: presents “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10 at the Mt. Penn Primary Center. $5 General Seating.

Dec. 9-10Christkindlmarket: The Daniel Boone Homestead will be featuring its first Christkindlmarket on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 from 4 to 9 p.m. both nights.It will feature local wineries at the lodge, luminaries and Christmas lights, with the sound of Christmas music lingering in the air, gifts by local artisians and the Boone house lit and decorated for Christmas. The bank barn and blacksmith shop will be open as well. You can watch the blacksmith hard at work making hand forged Christmas gifts. Call for more information, at 610-582-4900.

Stitching Circle: The Mifflin Community Library’s Evening Stitching Circle meets every Monday from 6:30-8 p.m., and the Afternoon Stitching Circle meets every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. New members are always welcome and should bring their own materials. There are currently between 12-15 members who sew, knit and crochet. The group works on personal projects as well as service projects to benefit the community. Come join in loads of fun & stitching!

Writers group: Mifflin Writers Group continues to meet the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. Mifflin Writers Group is composed of writers of all genres and levels of experience. Their purpose is to motivate, inspire, instruct, inform, share and critique each other in their writing efforts in a free flowing and relaxed atmosphere. Most programs encourage pre-registration and take place downstairs at the Mifflin Community Library unless otherwise noted.
