The driver of a 2007 Audi Q7 was killed after a crash on Route 183 in Penn Township early on Dec. 1. The driver had been attempting to pass a truck while negotiating a left curve, swerved abruptly to avoid oncoming traffic and lost control of the vehicle.
The identify of the driver is being withheld by police pending notification of next of kin.
State Police Hamburg report that at 4:46 a.m. on Dec. 1, the Audi was traveling south on Route 183 about one half mile north of Bright School Lane in Penn Township. Passing a tractor trailer while negotiating a left curve, the Audi travelled into the oncoming northbound lane. As oncoming traffic approached, the driver abruptly swerved back into the southbound lane, causing the vehicle to begin to slide clockwise. The Audi exited the west side of the roadway, descended a grass embankment and continued to slide south-west, striking several trees and became airborne.
The driver, not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and became trapped under the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. Identification of the driver is being withheld by police pending notification of family.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Schuylkill Valley EMS, Bernville Community Fire Company, Mount Pleasant Rescue 30, and the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
