In early autumn it was the extra mental chore of more than 100 Tulpehocken Junior High students to represent the concept of “A Celebration of Peace” visually as they participated in the Lions International 2016 Peace Poster Contest under the guidance of Mike Mulholland, 7th grade World History teacher, sponsored by the Frystown Lions Club.

When the Frystown Lions Club had completed its judging of a collection of entries, seventh grader Jade Adams, daughter of Michael and Patricia Adams of Bernville, and sister to Kira, her twin, was declared the winner of the school competition.

Also recognized were second place winner Angelle Resigno of Bethel, and third place winner Malvenia Lewis, also of Bernville.

With a picture of the world, and many different flags and persons, peace symbols and signs, as well as hearts and peace mobiles of years ago, Jade conveyed that message of peace, saying, “I drew and colored it to show how to communicate and celebrate peace.”

The young artist and her family have been invited to the second January meeting of the Frystown Lions Club.

The Peace Poster contest is in its 29th year. Lions International sponsors the contest “to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.”
