POTTSTOWN >> Seeing children enjoy the spirit of Christmas is arguably one of the best feelings of the holiday season.

That’s why the Manatawny Association in Pottstown is sponsoring the Annual Holiday Project again this year.

“This will be my 30th year doing this and it just means so much to me and all the kids,” said Jim Frymoyer, one of the key players in organizing the event.

The project, now in its 30th year, provides food baskets each year to families in need. This year, baskets will be distributed on Friday Dec. 16 to over 68 families and will include a turkey and ham as well as donated Giant Food Store gift certificates.

But baskets aren’t the only tradition the project is continuing.

The annual party that the group hosts for foster children will also be taking place that Saturday on Dec. 17. Each year, the party is held for over 300 foster children and their families that live in the area. The children all receive Christmas presents that day and get the chance to enjoy a magician, balloon maker, face painter, a plentiful buffet and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

This year, the party will be held at North End Fire Company, 310 Prospect St., Pottstown.

To make this happen, Frymoyer and other area organizations are collecting toys and monetary donations leading up to the event. Unwrapped toys will be collected at various locations throughout the area at destinations called “Angel Trees.”

Monetary donations such as checks and Giant Food gift cards can be sent to Jim Frymoyer, 100 Hillside Drive, A-4, Pottstown, or Karen Reed of Piazza Honda of Pottstown, 629 N. Lewis Road, Pottstown. Any checks should be made out to James Frymoyer or Karen Reed. Jim Frymoyer can be reached at 484-363-0638 and Karen Reed can be reached at 610-329-0006.

“We are so thankful to all who supported these projects in the past and we hope for your continued support,” said Frymoyer. “We cannot do this without help.”
