Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
Autumn Hawk Watch: Daily through Dec. 15 at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Kempton, at North Lookout, weather permitting. An average 18000 birds of prey will soar over the Kittatinny Ridge, and each year Hawk Mountain staff, volunteers, and trainees help tally the number and type of birds that pass. An official counter and interpreters are on hand to point out and identify raptors. Visitors should bring binoculars (or rent them at the Visitor Center), something soft to sit on, and a daypack with water and snacks. Dec. 10Donations for AIM and Food Bank: On Saturday, Dec. 10 Abilities in Motion along with Berks Greater Food bank and Berks Emergency Preparedness Svcs will be collecting donations and informing the community of ways to be safe this winter. AIM will be in the Fighting Phils parking lot from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to meet and greet. AIM is asking for gently used assistive technology items such as, manual wheelchairs, grabbers, supports, shoe horns and other devices they no longer need. The first 25 donations for AIM’s LEAP program will receive 2 tickets to the Fighting Phils, Christmas at the Stadium event. Canned goods and toiletries will be collected for the food bank as well.
