Fleetwood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1956 took a trip to Shady Hollow Assisted Riding in Birdsboro to earn their Pets badge.
Shady Hollow currently cares for more than 20 horses, 90 acres of farm land and more than three miles of trails. The troop learned the proper way to groom, care for and keep a horse. They were very eager to help feed, water and hay the horses for dinner and even volunteered to muck out the stalls. T
The program director spoke with our girls and explained that Shady Hollow typically provides a supportive equine environment where individuals with physical, cognitive and/or emotional challenges can experience therapeutic, social and educational rewards by teaching the rider how to improve their self-confidence, increase muscle strength, enhance balance, learn teamwork, and develop social skills.
The Girl Scout Troop is already making plans to go back next year to earn their Junior Riding badge.
