No changes for 2017 Hamburg School Board; President, VP reelected at reorganization meeting

On Dec. 5, Hamburg Area school directors held their yearly reorganization meeting with little reorganization taking place.

Brian Specht and Andrew Raugh were reelected as president and vice-president, respectively.

Specht, who has served on the board for 15 years, will be starting his second year as board president.

Raugh has served as a school director for seven years and will be starting his second year as vice-president.

No changes were made to the nine-member board.

Serving Hamburg Borough (Region 1) are Todd Hummel, Brian Riegel and Cory Johnson.

School directors representing the Borough of Shoemakersville and Perry and Windsor townships (Region 2) are Natalie Snow, Specht and Raugh.

School directors for the Borough of Strausstown and the townships of Tilden, Upper Bern and Upper Tulpehocken (Region 3) are Duane Crider, Lolly Lesher and Bradley Faust.

School directors approved the firm of Antanavage Farbiarz PLLC as solicitor for 2017 at a cost of $5,775. This represents an increase of $275 over 2016 for the long-time school district solicitor.

Alexa Antanavage will serve as chief counsel.

School directors also made the following committee appointments for 2017: Berks E.I.T., Business Manager Michele Zimmerman; Joint Operating Committee, Raugh; Committee on Legislative Action, Hummel; BCTC Authority, Steve Essig; Fine Arts Hall of Fame, Riegel.

The Building Committee consists of Riegel (chair), Lesher, Raugh and Crider.

Crider and Johnson front the Wellness Committee and the Academic Hall of Fame.

he next meeting of school directors will be on Monday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the James A. Gilmartin Community Room.
