Three active area volunteers, Sandy Green, Allison Reitenauer and Reno Unger will take their places as new members of the Kutztown Community Partnership Board of Directors as of Jan. 1, the organization’s president elect, Jerry Schearer announced Dec. 22.
“I am excited about the impact that this board will have on KCP,” said Schearer. “Each brings a whole new set of talents to the board in addition to the energy they have all demonstrated on behalf of Kutztown over the years.”
Schearer will move from the post of vice president to replace Joel Seidel as president. In addition to his work with KCP, He is an active volunteer with Friend, Inc., serves as blood drive coordinator for the Miller Keystone Blood Bank and is president of the board of All Souls Ecumenical Catholic Communion Church in Reading. Schearer is the Associate Dean for Inclusion and Outreach in the Department of Academic and Student Affairs at Kutztown University.
Green was a founding member of KCP and is back for a second term, this time as vice president. The idea of the organization originated on the board of the Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce, of which she is a member. She and a group of other members formed the first board and built an infrastructure that successfully qualified for acceptance in the national Main Street Program. Green is currently serving her third term as Mayor of Kutztown, is on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Municipal League and the Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust and the steering committee of KUBoK neighborhood watch. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Boroughs Association and the Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce and is a sales associate at Sorelli Jewelers.
Unger will move to the board after two years as chairman of the organization’s Promotion Committee, but will be keeping that position among his duties. He is retired from Kutztown University, serving first as its public relations director and later as Associate Professor of Public Relations. Currently, he also serves with the Kutztown Rotary Club, is on the public relations committee of Kutztown Strong and serves as a supervisor with KUBoK neighborhood watch. Unger is a retired U.S. Navy Commander after serving 20 years on active duty and in the reserves.
Reitenauer comes to the board for the first time, though she has been an active volunteer in KCP events such as the Block Party, the Dinner on Main, the Kutztown Kruizz and Christmas in Kutztown. She is on the public relations committee of Kutztown Strong, the secretary of the Kutztown Youth Athletic Association, the ways and means committee of the Kutztown Historical Society, last year’s Bicentennial Committee and volunteers for the KUBoK neighborhood watch. Reitenauer is currently employed in the billing department of the Kutztown Ambulance/Kutztown Area Transport Service.
Each board member serves a two year term. The terms are staggered so that not everyone is replaced at once. With the addition of the new members, the 2017 KCP board will be Schearer, president; Green, vice president; Janet Yost, treasurer; Gina Wiand, secretary; Kelley Nayhart; Joel Seidel; Ben Haas; Unger and Reitenauer.
