Mark Flammer of Hamburg was victorious at the 9th annual Keystone Classic which rolled at the Keystone Social Club in Hamburg in December.

Flammer bowled games of 222, 199 and 232 for a 653 scratch series coupled with his 3-game handicap of 84 to give him a tournament winning total of 737. His 653 sratch score was the only 600 plus series rolled over the four days of the tournament.

Second place went to Rick Neff with a 687 handicap score. Third place went to Bart Roth with a 665 handicap score.

The tournament was run over four days Dec. 8 to 11 with each competitor choosing one day to bowl their three games. This handicap singles event was based on last year’s highest average of each bowler. The three-game total plus handicap determined how they placed in the tournament standings.

The Keystone Social Club in Hamburg has a long history of bowling dating back to the 1920s. There are only two lanes and had used pin boys up until 1974, when automatic pinsetters were installed. Only the last two years did the club start using a lane oiling machine to apply conditioner to the lane surface. Previously lanes were oiled by hand. This method had produced 5 percent 300 games. Those bowlers were Harry Casper, Dwight Heckman, Scott Kreider and Brian Gerner (2). Bobby Heffner scored a perfect game in January 2015.

Tournament Director Scott Kreider invites anyone to sign up for next year’s installment of this event which is scheduled for Dec. 7, 2017.
