An information night for the new Penn State Extension-Berks County Master Watershed Steward Program will be held on Jan. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m., in the Bern Township Agricultural Center auditorium, 1327 County Welfare Rd., Leesport.

The Master Watershed Steward Program partners with area organizations to train volunteers to become citizen scientists. Volunteers then go out into the Berks County community to educate the public about water quality and watershed issues, organize stream cleanups and monitoring events, demonstrate rain gardens and rain barrels and much more.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from mid-March through mid-June, with three Saturday field trips. A $100 fee covers the cost of training. Scholarships are available.

Interested people should bring their schedules to the Ag Center meeting. For more information, please contact Karin Wulkowicz, Berks County Master Watershed Steward Coordinator, at krw42@psu.edu or 610-378-1327, x 221.
