The Berks Career and Technology Center (BCTC) will be hosting its annual Cut-A-Thon on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Oley campus. Guests will be able to enjoy cuts, styling, manicures and pedicures with proceeds going to fund breast cancer research.
Two cosmetology students at the east campus, Keiarra Blank and Emily Higdon, chose to organize a Cut-A-Thon as part of their senior project for this year.
“Our goal this year for our Cut-A-Thon is to raise money with all of our donations going towards the Breast Cancer Association. Not only that, but our students will get more open experiences with the services and with clients from the outside.” said Blank.
The cosmetology students have held a Cut-A-Thon at BCTC every year since 2010. Newer students will be giving manicures and pedicures, while experienced ones will be cutting, washing, and styling hair.
“Students love participating in our event. Not only is it an opportunity to achieve more hours for the students but it’s an opportunity for extra experience.” she said.
In 2015, the fundraiser brought in 127 clients and $521, and last year the Cut-A-Thon raised just over $600- 100 percent of which was donated to the American Breast Cancer Association.
The Cut-A-Thon will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oley campus. Students from the health occupation department will also be at the event to provide reflexology of the hands for clients.
