POTTSTOWN >> The pastor of St. Aloysius Parish and School has been selected from among 150,000 others across the country to receive a national award for his support of Catholic education.

The Rev. Joseph L. Maloney will receive the “Lead. Learn. Proclaim. Award” from the National Catholic Education Association in April during its conference in St. Louis.

Given to teachers, administrators and diocesan leaders and organizations across the country, the annual award Maloney will receive honors those whose ministry is Catholic education and who have demonstrated a strong Catholic educational philosophy, as well as exceptional ability, dedication and results, according to a release issued by the parish.

All three have been in evidence during Maloney’s tenure.

Maloney has provided the parish school with staff, including a director of advancement, and resources to meet the challenges of excellent educational programming and fiscal health.

Since its inception in 2013, the annual fund has steadily increased and allowed the school to invest in technology, building safety features as well as funding for professional development.

More recently, the fund-raising effort led by Maloney to relocate the existing parish school to the building that most recently housed St. Pius X High School.

The building has been vacant for several years.

It is expected to be renovated in coming months using hundreds of thousands of dollars in pledges donated to the parish. It will then lease the building for the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

“We are called to proclaim the Gospel at every moment each day of our lives,” said Maloney. “I think I wear my love for my school on my sleeve. It is visible to most people… especially my parishioners and school community. Because we love and we care for the school, we meet its present needs on a daily basis. That’s what carries us into the future.”
