A head-on collision on Route 662 in Richmond Township hospitalized both drivers and injured two children on Jan. 5.

Fleetwood Fire Company reported online that at about 7:15 p.m., Fleetwood fire and EMS were dispatched to assist Walnuttown Fire Company with a two vehicle head-on accident with multiple victims along Route 662 between Fleetwood and Route 222.

“Fleetwood personnel were at station training when the call was received and had an almost instant response with Rescue 45 and Engine 45,” reports Fleetwood Fire Company. “Crews found a head-on crash with two drivers entrapped plus two pediatric patients in the one vehicle as well.”

Both Walnuttwon and Fleetwood fire companies worked together with hydraulic tools, Jaws of Life, to extricate the patients as EMS called in additional ambulance units. Fire police diverted traffic from the scene and directed EMS units accordingly, reports Fleetwood Fire Company.

Fleetwood Police report that, “The crash occurred when the 2001 Subaru Legacy, driven by Maria Tucci, entered the opposing lane of traffic for an unknown reason, and struck a 2011 Toyota mini-van head on.”

Police are investigating the accident.

The mini-van was being driven by Patricia Strunk, 63, Fleetwood. She was transported to Reading Hospital for injuries.

Tucci, 28, Fleetwood, and her two juvenile passengers were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Fire police assisted on scene with traffic control. Route 662 between Fleetwood Borough and Scheiry Road was closed for about two hours.

A GoFundMe page has been created for Maria Tucci and her daughter at https://www.gofundme.com/helping-maria-get-back.

According to the GoFundMe page created by Maria’s sister Vernonica Tucci, Maria’s youngest daughter, 3, suffered minor bumps and bruises. Her older daughter, 7, suffered more severe injuries. Maria also sustained injuries.

“Anyone that knows Maria knows that she is such a hard worker and we would never reach out unless we really needed it,” writes Veronica Tucci on the GoFundMe page. “They will need help with paying bills, transportation, and other necessities along with the unending amount of medical bills they will be incurring. No amount is too small. Every little bit helps. Thank you all so much for the outpouring of love and support. We appreciate you all so much.”
