Kutztown Middle School 8th grader Zoe Weidman won second place in the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club’s first annual Story Telling Contest.

Entrants came from throughout Lehigh Valley and neighboring counties. The contest involved the initial writing of a “tale to tell” which the judging panel had to read and based on content decide on semi-finalists. These semi-finalists then “told their tales” to a captive audience of judges, club members and invited guests to determine final places. This year’s theme was “You Won’t Believe What My Dog Did!”

Weidman won Second Place in the Middle School Division but also scored 2nd highest overall. The other winners in the Middle School Division were First Place winner and Grand Champion Maggie Mauro, 8th grader from the Northwestern Lehigh School District; and Third Place winner Brandon Smeltz, 8th grader from the Northwestern Lehigh. In the High School Division, First Place went to Christopher Hippensteel, 9th grader from Northwestern Lehigh SD; and from the Bethlehem Area School District were Second Place winner Josh Christiansen, 12th grader; Third Place winner Juliana Maffea, 11th grader and an Honorable Mention to Thomas J. Schaeffer, 11th grader.

Winners will “tell their tales” at the LVKC’s Canine Learning Experience at Agri Hall on Feb. 5. For more information, visit lvkc.org.
