AMITY >> Daniel Boone School Board members agreed at their Jan. 9 meeting to increase the 2017-18 millage from 29.7 mills to the maximum allowed of 31.09 mills.

The board will not approve the Act 1 Budget Opt-Out Resolution at its Jan. 23 voting meeting. The board is expected to approve a preliminary 2017-18 budget of $56,336,313, which includes the new preliminary tax rate of 31.09 mills.

That means that the board cannot raise taxes beyond 31.09 mills without a ballot referendum.

According to the Act 1 index, Daniel Boone can raise taxes by 3.3 percent – to 30.68 mills.

The additional 1.3 percent tax increase results from the board using its PSERS exception (approved by the state) to obtain the maximum allowed tax rate.

Daniel Boone property taxes increased 2.5 percent for 2016-17, from 28.96 to 29.70 mills.

Property owners who currently pay $2,970 for every $100,000 of value, would pay $3,109 if the $56 million budget with 31.09 mills is approved in June.

All state public schools must approve a preliminary budget by May 31, and final budget by June 30.
