Even though it may be cold outside this winter season, Frecon Farms still manages to keep active during the winter season.

Frecon Farms will be hosting their third annual Winter Open House on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will be able to try new items from the winter seasonal menu, as well as other local and specialty items, for free.

“It’s our largest tasting event of the year,” said Josh Smith of Frecon Farms. “This entire event is a lot of really high quality free food. We get through the Christmas season, and this is kind of a thank you to our customers that have spent the previous year with us.”

The business will be unveiling many new pastries and dishes at the open house for guests to try, including apple fritters, cheeses from Valley Milkhouse in Oley, hard cider floats with Longacre ice cream, and even wild salmon with gourmet finishing sauce.

“There will be a lot of baked goods, a lot of gourmet and specialty local food items. We also have new products in the store such as new local meats, and local cheeses,” said Smith.

Frecon will also be debuting different breads, cookies, and a whole new line of flatbread sandwiches for customers to enjoy at home.

“We’ll be debuting a whole new Flatbread line coming out of the bakery. They are frozen flatbreads that can be taken home, put in the oven, and are ready. It’s almost like a frozen pizza, but much higher quality ingredients.”

Smith mentioned while that the open house will be a start point for the new season, it will also keep Frecon Farms relevant to customers.

“Like most business on planet earth, during the winter time, most people slow down. For us, it’s a way to keep people coming in, to keep ourselves in front of them, and also to share a lot of the things that we get asked about year-round. It’s our way of sharing our recipes with people that they can take home with them and keep.

Frecon Farms will continue to offer a variety of culinary classes to guests as well throughout the duration of the winter season. These include breadmaking, cookies and pastries, pie making, and others.

This year, a new cheese, cider, and wine pairing class will also be available to guests wanting to learn how to pair cheeses and fine wines. The class will be taught by Frecon’s Assistant Retail Manager, Emily Clee.

“We will teach people how to make cheese boards for at-home parties or holiday celebrations, and how to pick different cheeses and pair them with different beverages that they would be serving, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic,” said Smith.

Frecon Farms will also have a specialty class for Valentine’s Day in February, where guests will learn to make chocolate truffles for their loved one.

The adult culinary classes will take anyone, ages 12 and over. Kids classes are also available for children ages six to eleven.
