Driver, 18, swerves to avoid deer, rolls vehicle in Penn Township

A vehicle rolled over and struck several trees after the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway on Jan. 21. The driver was not injured.

State Police Reading report that at 6:57 p.m. on Jan. 21, Jeffrey Green, 18, of Reading, was driving west on Arboretum Road north of Washington Street in Penn Township when he saw a deer standing in the road. Green swerved to the right in his attempt to avoid hitting the deer. He then lost control of his 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, which went straight off the roadway halfway around the left curve, rolled over one time and struck several small trees and shrubs just inside the wood line. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Green was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt. He will be cited for not driving at a safe speed.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Bill’s Emergency Roadside Service of Mohnton.
