AMITY >> Police have arrested a burglary suspect after they allegedly found him inside a vacant home listed for sale.

Police have arrested John T. Richmond, 50, of Green Lane, after officers were called to a home for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Police said in a press release Tuesday that on Feb. 2 officers were called to a burglary in progress at around 3:50 p.m. at 1079 Route 422 east. A witness reported that a suspicious gray Ford truck with a Pennsylvania license plate was parked in the driveway with keys in the ignition.

Police said the home where the truck had been parked was for sale at the time and was unoccupied.

When officers arrived, they found the front door of the residence kicked in. During a search of the house, officers arrested Richmond, who told police that he likes to explore vacant houses.

He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Richmond has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass and related offenses. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 8 before District Judge Victor M. Frederick. Bail was set at $30,000.
