EXETER >> A house fire that broke out Saturday afternoon shut down Route 422 for close to an hour.

According to Exeter Police, authorities were called to a structure fire on the second floor bathroom of a home at 361 East Baumstown Road at 2:38 p.m. When first responders arrived, they were able to contain the blaze and the majority of the damage to the originating half of the duplex.

Both lanes of Route 422 eastbound in the area were closed from Route 345 into Amity Township, and traffic was re-routed onto Route 724 for approximately 45 minutes, police said.

Police did not specify how many people had been living in the home but stated that no injuries were reported in the fire.

The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing, and has been turned over to Exeter Township Fire Marshall Bentz.

Fire departments from Exeter Township, Amity Township and Birdsboro all responded to the scene to fight the fire.
