EXETER >> A multi-vehicle accident shut down parts of Perkiomen Avenue for two hours Friday as police investigated the scene.

According to a release from Exeter Police, officers were called to Perkiomen Avenue and Beechwood Drive at around 9:15 for a motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries that involved multiple vehicles.

Upon arrival, police determined that the crash had involved an eastbound white Ford Explorer driven by Melissa Cushman of Exeter, a westbound Silver Mitsubishi Monterro Sport driven by Daniel Quinones of Reading, and an eastbound black GMC Sierra operated by Timothy Gerke of Sinking Spring.

Police said preliminary findings indicated that shortly before 9:15 p.m. the eastbound Ford Explorer and the westbound Mitsubishi collided with one another in a “side swipe” type of collision near the yellow lines separating eastbound and westbound traffic on Perkiomen Avenue. The collision caused the westbound Mitsubishi to cross into the oncoming left lane of 422 eastbound, where it struck the black GMC Sierra head-on in a secondary collision, according to police.

All three drivers were transported from the scene by Exeter Fire EMS and Lower Alsace EMS for treatment and evaluation.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, police said.

Traffic was detoured off Perkiomen Avenue (also known as Business Route 422) in both directions for two hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.
