A Kutztown man, three children and a teen were sent to the hospital for injuries after their van collided with the rear of a box truck in Richmond Township on Feb. 22.

Fleetwood Borough Police report that at 4:17 p.m., Jonathan Kissinger, 25, Kutztown, was driving a 1998 Chevy Astro van north on Route 222. About one mile north of Richmaiden Road in Richmond Township, Kissinger looked in the back seat of his vehicle. At that time, a box truck in front of him began to slow down for slower traffic. After turning around to look forward, Kissinger applied his brakes and attempted to steer to the left. The van’s front struck the rear of the box truck.

Fleetwood Ambulance transported Kissinger and his passengers, ages 4, 10, 12, and 15. All were wearing seatbelts or secured in a child safety seat.

The driver of the box truck, Du Guoqiang, 54, New York, was not injured, He was wearing a seatbelt.

Fleetwood and Walnuttown fire companies assisted at the scene.

Roadway was not shut down. Traffic control directed vehicles around the accident scene.

Isamoyer’s Towing towed the van, which sustained heavy damage.

Summary traffic violation charges will be filed with Kissinger.
