The Fleetwood Area School District is proud to present three musicals for your enjoyment this spring.
The high school musical this year is Once Upon a Mattress. It will be performed on March 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. and March 19 at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The dress rehearsal on March 16 at 7 p.m. is free for senior citizens.
Set in 15th Century Europe, a fictional cartoon-esc medieval kingdom is ruled by the contemptuous, scheming Queen Aggravain, the pantomiming mute King Sextimus and the silent and their single, naive son, Dauntless the Drab. In an attempt to keep Prince Dauntless single, the Queen has decreed that only the princess that can pass her test may marry her son. Furthermore, no one else in the kingdom may marry until Prince Dauntless does, causing tension and anxiety throughout the kingdom, especially when an unmarried royal couple discovers they are expecting a child. When an unlikely princess named “Fred” is found, the Queen finds her incredibly unworthy and plots against her.
Fall in love with our delightfully adorable characters. Gawk at our student-designed set built by Mr. Kirby Barnett. Enjoy the memorable, toe-tapping music from our pit, conducted by Mrs. Sarah Shuey. Be amazed at the fantastic dance numbers choreographed by Junior Maya Evans. Drool over the gorgeous costumes by Mrs. Cathy Reed. Take in a fun show stage-managed/ co-directed by Junior Jenna Masenheimer and directed by Ms. Elaine Hilbert. Mattress is a laugh-out-loud production.
Willow Creek Elementary School Performing Arts Committee will present its seventh annual spring musical Lion King Kids on Thursday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. This year’s production includes a cast of 62 students from kindergarten through 4th grade. Join us to watch the African savanna come to life as actors sing such favorites as, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” and “Hakuna Matata”. Admission is free; donations to support the Performing Arts Committee will be accepted at the show.
The middle school presents High School Musical, Jr. on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, both at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m. They also plan to present a show during the day on Friday April 28 for senior citizens. Over 70 students from 6-8 grade auditioned for this year’s musical under the direction of Mrs. Rebecca Peters. There are also approximately 30 students involved in the stage crew under the direction of Mrs. Michelle Rodriguez. Mrs. Evans continues in her role of working with the students singing, and Ms. Matteo will be working with students and their choreography. Mrs. Reed returns as costumer extraordinaire. We are excited for our favorite season of the year, spring musicals!
