Fleetwood Girl Scout Service Unit is proud to announce that Natalie Schappell and Julie Funari of Cadette Troop 1773 earned their Girl Scout Silver Award.
The Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn at the Cadette level.
Natalie and Julia are both passionate about reading. They felt the walls of the Richmond Elementary School Library could be improved in a way that would help get kids excited about reading.
They obtained permission from the school to transform the walls with pictures. The theme of one wall was “Reading is Wild” and depicted African safari animals. The other wall had a Harry Potter theme. Other areas of the room reflected a child sitting on a stack of books reading a book and, of course, Dr. Suess.
The girls did all of their own art work. They each spent in excess of 50 hours planning and executing their project. Completion of the Silver Award helped the girls hone their skills in leadership, planning, time management, and problem solving. The completed project was then unveiled to the elementary school children.
