State Police responded to homicide and suicide in Shoemakersville Borough on March 20.
State Police report that a 911 call was received from a residence on Fourth Street at 1:07 a.m. The caller heard banging on her door and then a gunshot. Carol Zimmerman, 50, of Mohrsville, was heard saying, “Garry shot me.”
Homicide victim Zimmerman was pronounced dead behind 234 Fourth St., Shoemakersville.
Suicide victim Garry Maurer, 61, Shoemakersville, was found deceased in his residence at 425 Chestnut St. at about 4:25 a.m. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
State Police report that the distance between both locations is about 50 yards.
State Police were assisted by Berks County Coroner’s office.
