Fleetwood High School’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is conducting its own community service project, run by FBLA members Alicia Stitzel, Chris Logar, and Maija Kotsch. The main focus of their project is to connect the community with the local retirement home in Blandon known as the Keystone Villa at Fleetwood, and to bring joy and a smile to the faces of the senior citizens who reside there, some of which do not have relatives that visit.
They commenced monthly activities with the members in October of 2016 and will continue activities until April of 2017. In addition, they’ve involved their fellow FBLA members by having them volunteer at these activities and write cards to the residents for every major holiday.
The Richmond Elementary School and Fleetwood Middle School also have been incorporated into their project. The elementary school has held holiday coloring contests for the residents to observe our younger generation’s art work as well as chose a winner from each grade. The middle school students have performed in a talent show held on Feb. 3.
Other activities completed include icing cookies, making non-slip socks with puffy paint, reading stories to the residents, and creating a “Thankful Tree” where the residents discussed what they were thankful for.
The upcoming events include an Easter egg hunt and Bingo at the Keystone Villa.
The residents and community have bonded much as a direct result of the project and Fleetwood FBLA has achieved their goal of making a positive impact on the lives of the residents and the community.
