Rodeo Marie Hanson, 11, of Fleetwood, spent her most recent birthday in a unique way. Rodeo was a guest at the Special Screening and New York Premiere of Walt Disney’s “Beauty And The Beast.”
The event, which took place March 13 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York, provided Hanson with a sneak peak of the film a few days before its national release, and a chance to meet some of its stars.
Guests were treated to a lavish party complete with all the frills of a Hollywood bash, prior to the screening. The lobby of Alice Tully Hall was done-up in fairy-tale fashion to reflect the ethereal thematic elements of the film, from the special one of a kind chairs and tables perfectly suited for a magical tea party, to the countless rose petals on the floor.
Rodeo nibbled on hors d’oeuvres and mingled with some of the film’s cast members, and received birthday wishes from some of the celebrities she met. Following the party, Rodeo made her way to the Starr Theater, Adrienne Arsht Stage. Inside the theater, Bill Condon, the movie’s director, gave a short speech about the making of the film. Then the stars of the film made their way to the stage: Sir Ian McKellen, Dan Stevens, Ewan McGregor, Josh Gad, and Emma Watson. Thunderous applause followed each name as it was announced. A full-piece orchestra was also assembled in honor of the occasion, and treated the audience to a very special live overture as the lights began to dim.
“Beauty and the Beast” currently holds the title as the 6th largest domestic box-office opening of all time, and has already earned $174.8 million. It tells the story of Belle, a young lady who epitomizes female empowerment. When her father is taken prisoner by a hideous beast (who used to be a handsome prince), it’s up to Belle to see past the outwardly appearance of the beast … so that the inner beauty and goodness of the former prince can be revealed.
“Beauty And The Beast” runs 2 hours and 10 minutes, and is rated PG.
Rodeo’s review:This movie is great and I love the character of Belle, and give Emma Watson four out of 4 popcorn boxes which is an A+. I liked the special effects they give to the silverware, the human-like way they come to life… and how the cup talks. It has a great beginning, that grabs your attention, and shows the first gay character in a Disney movie. This is a great movie so you should go to the theater and watch it!
