EXETER >> A one-vehicle accident involving a downed utility pole closed a township roadway for several hours Sunday night.
Exeter Police were called to the 5000 block of Boyertown Pike for a report of a vehicle that struck a utility pole at around 11:30 p.m.
Police said an investigation and interview revealed that Austin Willard of Exeter has been driving a pickup truck eastbound on Boyertown Pike when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. The vehicle then struck a utility pole causing downed wires and a broken pole.
Hanging electrical wires created a hazard for drivers and resulted in the closure of Route 562 in both directions for over five hours, police said. Met-Ed was called to the scene to repair live wires and install a new pole.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and police said Willard suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital via Exeter Fire EMS for treatment.
Police are continuing to investigate.
