Fleetwood Girl Scout Junior Troop 1793 celebrated World Thinking Day with a celebration of the country of their choice. The girls decided to learn about Jamaica! Each girl had to research 3 facts about the country and 3 facts about Girl Guides in Jamaica. The girls discovered many similarities and some unique differences, as well. Each girl and their parent brought a covered dish food item and the girls had a fun time tasting the many Jamaican foods available.

The girls were issued a special passport for the evening and they had their meeting set up in stations. One station was making a bandana belt. The girls embellished them with beads. Another station was frying homemade banana fritters, a typical breakfast food. Attached is the recipe. Many of the girls asked for the recipe. Other stations included painting in traditional Jamaican colors with some Jamaican saying written on them. Lastly, they had a station to make a bead bracelet with colors of the Jamaican flag. It was a wonderful way for the Girl Scouts to be immersed in the Jamaican culture, learn about the country and about scouting there as well.
