Rachel Stahl of Oley is one of seven Marietta College seniors who presented their chemistry research at the American Chemical Society National Meeting held April 2-6 in San Francisco.

Stahl, a graduate of Oley Valley High School, is majoring in Biochemistry and is scheduled to graduate in May of 2017.

Dr. Kevin Pate, McCoy Professor of Chemistry, said having seven students attending the ACS National Meeting exceeds the department’s expectations.

“This represents 87.5 percent of our current Senior Capstone students,” he said. “When we overhauled our Capstone/research experience about 5-6 years ago to encourage research by underclassmen, we could not have anticipated such a high percentage of our students having results worthy of presenting at an international meeting. It is a testament to both the students and the faculty that this class is so accomplished.”

Stahl will attend Ohio State University’s veterinary program in the fall.

She is one of three biochemistry students at Marietta to earn a spot in a veterinary program this spring.

“It is an impressive accomplishment,” said Pate. “It’s rare for us to have that many students at one time with the goal of becoming a vet, but they are shining examples of how a Marietta College education can prepare you for anything.”
