The Hamburg Borough Police Department are encouraging drivers to slow down in Hamburg with the use of a speed board.
“The speed board will be moved around the borough in an effort to reduce speeding and to serve as a visual notice of the speed the vehicle is travelling, e.g. slow down,” said Hamburg Police Chief Pedro A. Rivera. “As summer approaches and good weather becomes more frequent, we will see an increase in vehicle traffic as well as foot traffic. We are looking to make the streets safer for the travelling public and pedestrians.”
The speed board sign was placed on Third and Walnut streets April 3 through April 14. Always Towing of Hamburg provided the location and electricity for the speed board. The next location was on State Street on the property of the Doggie Styles, Inc.
“At times we call upon the business community to permit the placement of the speed board on their property to avoid blocking traffic visibility,” said Rivera. “Hamburg Police will monitor the traffic throughout the day and night looking for compliance.”
Prior to the Easter holiday weekend, the speed board was placed on the Met-Ed property on South 4th Street entering Hamburg.
“Due to the increase in holiday traffic we are being proactive in reminding the motorist to reduce speed entering the borough,” said the Chief prior to the holiday weekend.
