Building on the success of the former art crawl, Kutztown Community Partnership will expand the event into the Kutztown Art Soiree May 4, 5 and 6. Merchants along Kutztown’s Main Street business district will offer area artists the opportunity to display their works in their stores.

Each participating business will host one or more artists. Openings will take place in individual shops on Thursday, May 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., during which artists will be available to discuss their work.

Each venue has been encouraged to have light refreshments and other enticements to greet connoisseurs. Art will hang through May 4, 5, and 6 during extended business hours.

The exhibit will highlight the efforts of contemporary artists including local favorites Jan Crooker and Marilyn Fox. Works will include paintings, sculptures, graphics, works on paper and other media.

The annual Kutztown Art Soiree started as the Art Crawl, highlighting the work of local artists and has expanded into its current form with the intent of bringing the community together to celebrate the area’s rich artistic culture.

A separate event on May 5, sponsored by the Kutztown Area School District, will add interest for art enthusiasts. A book signing will be held at the Kutztown Area Middle School by Kay A. Haring, author of a biographical book about her brother Kieth Haring’s meteoric rise to international fame for his art. The book is entitled “Kieth Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing.” This event will be sponsored by the KASD Visual Arts Program and its Educational Foundation.
