Berks Encore is proud to announce it has received a $16,896.28 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America’s ninth annual Share the Love Event.
During the event held from Nov. 17, 2016 through Jan. 3, 2017, Subaru of America Inc. donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer’s choice of participating charities, including Meals on Wheels America, of which Berks Encore is a Member.
“Berks Encore is tremendously grateful for this grant award from Meals on Wheels America,” says LuAnn Oatman, Berks Encore President/CEO. “The funds will be used for the Meals on Wheels program throughout Berks County to help us ensure homebound seniors receive a nutritious meal each weekday. We thank the community for their outpouring of support for our county’s seniors, especially from Steve Moyer Subaru, our local Subaru partner.”
Berks Encore partnered with Steve Moyer Subaru, Leesport, during the 2016 holiday season to raise funds and awareness of senior isolation and hunger in Berks County. Berks Encore’s signature Share the Love/ Stuff the Trunk food drive event ran from December 1 until December 31. Donations were collected at each of our six centers and at the Steve Moyer Subaru dealership. This food donation collection benefited the agency’s Meals on Wheels clients. Other businesses, individuals, and community organizations contributed gifts and cards for each Meals on Wheels client served by Berks Encore via the Angel Tree program.
Assured Assistance and Paramount Living Aids, both of Shillington, presented Berks Encore with a check totaling $2,500 in December as part of the Share the Love Campaign. The funds were put towards the purchase of Redner’s Warehouse Markets gift cards for Meals on Wheels clients served by Berks Encore’s Mifflin center.
