With support from more than 15,000 dedicated volunteers, parents, and community partners, Girl Scouts of Eastern PA delivers the Girl Scout experience to close to 40,000 girls in nine counties. On Tuesday, May 2, GSEP recognized volunteers from across these nine counties with their annual Adult Awards Celebration. This event was held at Camp Laughing Waters in Gilbertsville.
Three members of the Boyertown Service Unit received awards. Denise Saxman, Service Unit Manager and community volunteer, received the GSEP Super Service Unit Award in recognition for being a longtime volunteer who has devoted time, skills, and leadership to her service unit for more than 10 years. Sharon Smith, Troop Leader and service unit volunteer, received the GSUSA Appreciation Pin for outstanding service to the service unit and her troop in a way that furthers the council’s goals.
The highest honor of the evening was presented to Marcia Martin, Troop Leader and service unit volunteer. She received the Gertrude K. McGonigle Award. This award recognizes a volunteer who has impacted multiple service units. She has provided outstanding service in a role to at least two Service Units in a way that furthers the council’s goals. Only one Girl Scout volunteer receives this award.
