VFW, American Legion host Hamburg Memorial Day parade and ceremonies May 29

The Wagner-Good Post of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and the Behler-Hein American Legion Post will once again host a Memorial Day parade and ceremony in the Borough of Hamburg.

The parade will be held on Monday May 29 from approximately 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at 2nd and State streets.

This year’s route will be the same as last year’s starting at 2nd and State at the Veterans Memorial at 9 a.m. Opening ceremonies will be conducted at this site then proceeding up State Street to 4th, north on 4th Street to Confer Avenue and 5th Street for a ceremony at the Greenwood Cemetery. The procession will then travel west on Franklin to Port Clinton Avenue, then south on 3rd Street to Pine Street, east on Pine to St. John’s Cemetery for the ceremony at St. John’s. The ceremony at St. John’s will commence around 10:15 a.m..

The parade will disband after the ceremony at St. John’s Cemetery.

An open house with food and refreshments will be held at both the VFW Post 216 located at 4th and State streets and the American Legion Post on Franklin Street after the parade.

All are welcome to walk along with the parade participants.

In the event of rain ceremonies will be conducted indoors at the National Guard Armory on North 5th Street.
