Of the eight candidates seeking seats on the Boyertown Area School Board, only one was knocked off the ballot in Tuesday’s primary elections – John DeMartino in Region 1.

Region 1

There were four candidates seeking two open seats for Region 1 on the board, which includes the boroughs of Bally and Bechtelsville, as well as Colebrookdale, Earl and Washington townships.

With the elimination of DeMartino, three remain. They are:

* Former board member Ruth Dierolf, who won both a Democratic and Republican ballot line and, at 968, was the top total vote-getter with 596 Republican votes and 368 Democratic votes, according to unofficial results.

* Robert Caso, an incumbent, who won 491 votes, putting him in the other Republican slot on the fall ballot.

* Rodney Boyer, whose 397 votes on the Democratic line will give him the other Democratic line on the November ballot.

Region 2

In this race, two candidates are seeking one open seat, currently held by incumbent Jill Dennin.

Region 2 is spread across Berks and Montgomery counties and includes the borough of Boyertown, Douglass (Berks) Township and districts two, three and four of Douglass (Mont.) Township.

Both Dennin and her opponent, Dana Knowlton, will appear on the November ballot because Dennin won the Democratic line with a total of 433 votes across the two counties and Knowlton won the Republican line with a total of 655 votes across the two counties.

In the general election, it will not matter which party the votes come from, only the total will decide the election.

Region 3

There is one seat open in this race, being vacated by School Board President John Landino, who is not seeking another term.

Region 3 is comprised of district one of Douglass (Mont.) Township, which represents residents living north of the Middle Creek, and well as New Hanover and Upper Frederick townships.

Both candidates running for this seat – Brandon Foose and Roger Updegrove – will appear on the fall ballot.

Updegrove won the Republican line by three votes – 547 to 542, according to unofficial results – and Foose easily won the Democratic line, 572 votes to 118 for Updegrove.

Election Day will be Nov. 7 this year.
