Tilden Township Police cited people for Criminal Trespass at The Rock and the Kernsville Dam Recreational Area in Tilden Township on May 15, 16 and 17.

Tilden Township Police Chief William J. McEllroy III reports that on May 15, Tilden Township Police Officers were dispatched to Kernsville Dam Recreational Area, Tilden Township after a witness observed people trespassing on foot north of the locked gate in Lot 1. Officers found three adults from Reading on Kernsville Dam Road in the No Trespassing area. They will be cited with summary Criminal Trespass.

On May 16, while doing a random patrol of the Kernsville Dam Recreational Area, officers encountered a vehicle driving on Kernsville Dam Road in the No Trespassing area. The gate which blocks the road was unlocked but closed while the officers were inside checking the area. The driver of the vehicle opened the gate to drive in with his passenger. No Trespassing signs are posted on the left and right of the gate. The adult driver will be cited with summary Trespass by Motor Vehicle. Both the adult driver and adult passenger, from Bethlehem and Kutztown, will be cited for summary Criminal Trespass.

On May 17, around 2:30 p.m., four more adults were caught trespassing by Tilden Police and PA State Police. One, from New Holland, was in Lot 3 south of the Rock, the other three, from Downingtown, were at the Kernsville Dam in Lot 2. All four will be cited for summary Criminal Trespassing.

Later at 5:23 p.m., Tilden Township Police, Hamburg Borough Police and PA State Police responded to the Kernsville Dam Recreation Area for a report of people trespassing.

Six people were found at the Rock. Five people ran off down the railroad tracks and were not caught. One adult from Conshohocken will be cited for summary Criminal Trespass.

Two more adults from Reading were found on the trail north of Lot 3 heading to the Rock. They will also be cited for summary Criminal Trespass.

One more adult from Hamburg was found on Kernsville Dam Road near Lot 2 and will be cited for summary Criminal Trespassing.

The Kernsville Dam Recreational Area has been closed since Aug. 25, 2016.

McEllroy III reports that between Aug. 25 and Sept. 18, 2016, after the recreation area had been closed, the Tilden Township Police Department cited 80 people for criminal trespass and one for trespass by motor vehicle.

So far for 2017, the Tilden Township Police Department has cited 31 people for criminal trespass and one for trespass by motor vehicle between April 11 and May 17, McEllroy reports.
