A celebration of all volunteers, planned by The Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead, will be held at the Daniel Boone Homestead on Sunday, May 21, to honor all of the site’s volunteers and to recognize the Volunteer of the Year honoree for service in 2016, Deb Drager.
In 2016, volunteers contributed nearly 1,100 hours, making it possible for the Homestead to offer such great public programming as Fireside Stories, Charter Day, Children’s Day, and Heritage Day, to name just a few special events.
The celebration will be held in the Homestead’s historic Wayside Lodge on Sunday, May 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers will have a chance to mingle before the presentation of the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award to Pottstown resident Deb Drager. In his nomination of Deb Drager for this award, Site Director Paul Kahan noted, “Deb brings to the site knowledge, enthusiasm, energy and an unlimited willingness to “get her hands dirty.” In just the last few months, she has volunteered in excess of 80 hours (the equivalent two full work weeks!), and she can always be counted upon to deliver “110%” when it comes to working on the site.”
To recognize our volunteers, Viva Catering has donated its services, providing food and refreshments as a “thank you” to all of the volunteers who contribute their time and talent to keeping this local site operating. In addition, both Senator Judy Schwank and State Representative David Maloney have been invited to recognize their efforts on behalf of the Homestead.
The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birthplace of the famed frontiersman, born in 1734. The Boone House, constructed in three stages throughout the eighteenth century, is a 10-room stone structure fully furnished to the period and situated on 579 acres of rolling countryside.
The Daniel Boone Homestead is located halfway between Reading and Pottstown, one mile north of Rt. 422 near Baumstown. The Homestead is owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and daily historic operations are run by the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead, a local, non-profit organization.
