Boyertown Area Senior High Social Studies Teacher and Student Council Advisor, Mr. Jeffrey Kusniez, has been named a finalist for the 2017 Warren E. Shull High School Student Council Adviser of the Year Award sponsored by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Mr. Kusniez is one of six (6) finalists from which a national high school winner will be announced during the NASC National Conference in Derry, NH this summer.
The 2016-2017 school year is Mr. Kusniez’ 14th year as the advisor of the high school’s student council. In addition to serving as Student Council Advisor, Mr. Kusniez also the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils District 13 Director, Region 2 Adult Liaison, and the Pennsylvania Chairman of the U.S. Senate Youth Program.
Boyertown Area High School senior and Student Council president Cecelia Howale nominated Mr. Kusniez. “Mr. Kusniez is always available to help us before and after school,” Cecelia said. “He goes above and beyond to support our growth as leaders and to ensure that we are recognized for the work we do … I nominated him because I wanted him to be recognized for all of the work that he does.”
In his letter of support, Mr. Andrew T. Maoury, Twelfth Grade Level Principal wrote, “Through Mr. Kusniez’s leadership and commitment, the students are able to learn the decorum and intricacies that go into event planning, philanthropy, school spirit, and overall congeniality for the betterment of our school community…He embodies dedication, commitment, and most of all, passion to the mission and duties of the Student Council.”
“The finalists for the Warren E. Shull Award are skilled educators who epitomize the commitment student council advisers make to promote leadership, service, and civic engagement as qualities of good citizens through student council,” said Ann Postlewaite, Director of NASSP Student Programs. “NASC congratulates Mr. Kusniez for his exemplary efforts to nurture and develop these qualities in high school student leaders.”
