For the third time in as many years, Philadelphia-based Fire in the Radio blew through Kutztown, this time touring in support of their latest album, New Air.

The whirlwind started in Vermont, followed by two nights at the punk rock Pouzza Fest in Montreal, then traveling south with a free in-store performance at Young Ones in Kutztown, before wrapping up with their official record release show back in their hometown at Boot & Saddle. As Jon Miller (guitar, vocals) says, “It’s not an East Coast tour without a stop at Young Ones.”

Fire in the Radio is a favorite of the staff at Young Ones, the longstanding Kutztown record store. Their 2015 release, Telemetry, was chosen as the top record of the year by a combination of staff rankings and customer votes. New Air, released on May 5th, has been receiving accolades in the music press, and is available on CD and vinyl at Young Ones.

Long time customer, Nick Romig, chose to spend the evening of his birthday catching the band at Young Ones. Rich Carbone serenaded him, playing Happy Birthday on guitar as the band was introduced.

Midway through the set, the band dedicated Adeline to the staff at Young Ones. After playing energetically for over half an hour, they announced “This is usually where we stop…but not tonight!” The enthusiastic audience was treated to a few more tracks, ending with an REM cover.

You can catch Fire in the Radio live as they add tour dates and return to The Fest underground music festival in Gainesville, FL this October.
