Occasional light rain didn’t dampen spirits during a weekend of baseball games at the Kutztown Park for the Kutztown Youth Athletic Association 12U Tournament. By late Sunday afternoon, it was down to the Championship game. Kutztown faced Fleetwood Red in the showdown, after Fleetwood had dominated their first three games, outscoring opponents 27-1. Kutztown put up a fight, closing the gap in the final game to 9-7 in the fourth inning, before Fleetwood pulled away to win the championship 14-7.
In between games, players qualified for the ever-popular home run derby. More than 30 players gave it a shot. A minimum of four home runs was required to make it to the finals, with Evan Westenhoefer of Fleetwood crushing nine over the fence. It was a tight battle for the trophies. The top three sluggers finished with six, five, and four for Dylan Gass (Daniel Boone), Evan Westenhoefer (Fleetwood), and Lucas Bojt (Brandywine), respectively. Eli Rhoads (Daniel Boone), Logan Templin (Fleetwood), and Christian Cremi (Daniel Boone) were the other finalists.
