Members of Girl Scout Troop #47 has been enjoying each others’ company since they joined together as Brownies in 1950. Over the years the Troop has had several leaders, but one leader has remained a part of the group since the beginning. Jutta Bausher, of Hamburg, and often assisted by her late husband, Ralph, has devoted many hours in planning and arranging events for the girls over the years. To honor them the Troop has had a Red Bud tree planted at the Hamburg Borough Park in November 2016, near the walking path along the Schuylkill River where Jutta often enjoys taking her walks. A plaque has also been placed with the tree to honor Jutta and Ralph for their many years of dedication to the Troop.
Along with their leader, the members of Troop #47, still meet yearly at St. John’s EL Church in Hamburg and several members along with Jutta, have also enjoyed week long trips together over the past 12 years. Places they have enjoyed visiting have been the Outer Banks, in NC; the Finger Lakes, in N.Y.; and this year at Beach Haven, N.J.
Their Motto is “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is Silver and the other Gold.”
The plaque was placed at the tree May 19 before several of the group made their way to “The Cast House” in Beach Haven, N.J.: Dot Balthaser, Carol Schappell, Linda Fink, Carol Stoudt, Jutta Bausher, Joan Adams, Linda Cox, Carole Wentzel, Judy Keller, Gerry Wagner.
