State Police Reading arrived on scene at the intersection of Noble Street and Mertz Road in Maxatawny for a one vehicle crash at 1:44 p.m. on June 16. A green 2015 Dodge Challenger had struck a utility pole head on.
State Police report that the driver, Robert Hartline, 56, Kempton, was driving southbound on Noble Street at about 55 miles per hour when he fell asleep behind the wheel. The car then swerved to the right and went off the right side of the roadway and then struck the utility pole head on.
Hartline sustained minor injuries. He was evaluated on scene by Kutztown EMS but refused further transport.
The vehicle was towed by Andre’s Towing.
State Police report that field sobriety tests were performed on Hartline and he was subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. Hartline was also in possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
