3-vehicle crash on Route 183 Penn Township sends drivers to hospital

State Police Reading report that at 4:32 p.m. on June 16, a three-vehicle crash occurred on Route 183 (Bernville Road) at the intersection with North Beyfrle Hill Road in Penn Township.

Police report that a 1996 Honda Civic was driving south on Route 183 at a high rate of speed and improperly passed vehicles traveling south on Route 183. The Honda Civic crashed into the rear of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee which was stopped in the southbound lane of Route 183 waiting to make a left turn onto North Beyfrle Hill Road. The Honda Civic then crashed into a 2008 Mazda CX-9 which was driving north on Route 183.

The driver of the Honda Civic, Aaron Ruiz-Rodriguez, 20, Newark, Del., sustained suspected serious injury. He was transported to the Reading Hospital by Schuylkill Valley EMS. Unknown if seat belt used. Jonathan Service Center removed the disabled vehicle from the scene.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, Alexa Derr, 22, Reinholds, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Reading Hospital by Blandon EMS. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Mazda CX-9, Troy Wolf, 45, Bernville, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Reading Hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.

Hurst Towing removed the Jeep Cherokee and Mazda CX-9.

State Police report that Ruiz-Rodriguez will be cited.

State Police were assisted on scene by Mt. Pleasant Fire Company, Bernville Fire Company and Bernville Police Department.
