Once the listing of duties and accomplishments were starting to be shared, it did not take Shartlesville Lions Club members long to figure out that which had been kept secret from all members but for the four-member Selection Committee.

The honoree of the club recognition, Lion of the Year, was Lion Ashley Seitzinger, a member of the club since 2008.

Since becoming a Lion, he has accumulated a variety of duties, including working with the club’s medical equipment as area residents have a need. Lion Ashley also arranges the tables for the Lions twice monthly hosted dances and lets participating dancers know via e-mail what foods will be offered at that particular Friday evening. He also helps man the admission table as well, from time to time.

Local residents might see him as he helps put up banners in town that picture local service personnel, which he also repairs, or watch him plow the snow from the Grange parking lot when that work has to be done.

Club president Bob Argot kept sharing the many things Lion Ashley Seitzinger has done including attending meeting regularly and serving as co-organizer of the fall brunch, before calling him to come before his fellow Lions to receive the Lion of the Year award.

And as congratulations were given him from all present, there surely was family pride in the room as well, as his parents, John and Helen Setizinger, and his wife Peggy are also Lions in the Shartlesville Lions Club.

Next year Lion Ashley Seitzinger will have a new duty, to help choose the next recipient of the club’s special honor and keep it a secret until the presentation is made.
