Auto mechanic, storage building destroyed by fire in Perry Township

State Police Reading investigated the report of a fire on Mohrsville Road in Perry Township at 3:45 a.m. on June 22.

According to State Police, crews arrived to find smoke and flames engulfing a stand-alone pole barn used as an auto mechanic and storage building with seven garage bays. The building was vacant at the time and several vehicles and the entire building were destroyed. No injuries were reported. Crews arrived quickly and were able to save the adjacent building. The damage estimate is $500,000.

State Police report that the investigation showed that the origin of the fire was inside the building; the cause and exact area are still under investigation.
