The Fleetwood Recreation Board recently sponsored another family oriented event on June 14 at the Town Square, located on the 100 block of Main Street. It was a summer information event called Cool Fun in the Hot Sun. Adults and children received information about various organizations and groups, and the activities that are offered for youth over the summer.

In attendance were representatives from the Tri-Valley YMCA, Fleetwood Pool, Fleetwood Community Theatre, Fleetwood Area Public Library, and St. Paul’s UCC.

Shelley Eppihimer, representing the Tri Valley YMCA, brought a sand table for a “digging expedition” for children. Objects were located by identification with a picture and then sand excavation with a shovel.

The YMCA Playground Program begins June 19 and offers multiple activities for ages Kindergarten through sixth grade. The Tri-Valley YMCA located in Fleetwood offers year round family wellness and fun, as well as child care. Mary Templin, representing the Fleetwood Pool, offered information on pool memberships and upcoming activities. “Elvis” will be visiting the pool on June 22 at 7:30 p.m., Family Fun Night is July 16 starting at 6 p.m., and August 3 at 7:30 p.m. is music enjoyment by Jeff Krick. The pool also offers water aerobics and swim lessons. The Fleetwood Community Theatre was represented by vice president, Ken Driestadt. The Theatre group offers opportunities to participate in various aspects of theatre production and performance. The upcoming presentation of Oliver at the Fleetwood High School Auditorium begins July 20 and runs until July 22. Tickets in advance are $15 and at the door $18. The Fleetwood Area Public Library is excited to begin their 2017 Summer Learning Program. Children and teens earn prizes for reading and for acts of kindness this summer! Mondays are busy days at the library with mornings at 9:30 a.m. with the STEAM Club and Monday Night Family Programs beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday morning’s offer Story times and Special Events throughout the summer. St. Paul’s UCC was represented by Stacy Laucks. She answered information about all of the wonderful activities available at the church including Sunday school, Youth events, Pre-School, and also, information on the Vacation Bible School beginning June 19. The Fleetwood Rec Board is looking forward to sponsoring more seasonal events at the Fleetwood Town Square. Last fall, the opening ceremony for the Town Square took place on October 16 with Mayor Tammy Gore cutting the ribbon for the Fleetwood Fall Pumpkin Fun Day. Children participated in pumpkin decorating, face painting, and trick or treating at this event. And last December, Santa’s elves took over to help children with a Free Children’s Crafts Workshop with children making ornaments, crafts, and decorations.
