Brad Younker battled out against his brothers Eric and Steve, winning the combine derby during the 1st annual Mountain Springs Country Fair at the Mountain Springs Arena in Shartlesville.

The inaugural fair, held June 15, 16 and 17, also featured a horse pull, demo derby, rides, livestock, entertainment and line dancing.

“The 2017 Mountain Springs Country Fair is now in the books, our 1st initial Fair in Shartlesville,” said Don Bercaw, Mountain Springs Country Fair vice president. “The crowds were small on Thursday night, average on Friday night, and very good on Saturday night before the rains came about 9 p.m.”

Bercaw said that their first farm combine derby was well attended, even with a small field of combines.

“The ride company came with a great variety of rides for all ages and on Thursday night and Saturday evening had a pay one price ride all band for $15,” he said. “There was a large entry list of livestock in pigs, sheep, goats, and cows. The musical entertainment was a great hit with the Large Flower Heads and County Line and a large crowd participated in the Saturday line dance session with Nugget.”

He said Saturday afternoon there was an indoor horse pull that attracted attention, “A first, seen by many of attendees.”

“Baking contest was a big hit as that is at many PA Fairs,” said Bercaw.

Former PA Farm Show winner Lorrie Rauch was the apple pie winner and will represent the fair at the farm show again in January at Harrisburg.

“The good part from a local residents standpoint, no traffic issues with attendees. A good variety of fair food was also available,” he said.
