The Fleetwood Recreation Board presents The Fleetwood Borough Military Hero Banner Program.

In order to honor present and prior military veterans, the Fleetwood Recreation Board is proud to announce a program that will display Military Hero banners on light poles along Main Street in the Fleetwood Borough. This effort is also supported by The Fleetwood Borough, Fleetwood Historical Society, The Fleetwood American Legion, and Fleetwood Sons of American Legion.

Each banner will be customized with the name, picture (in uniform), branch of military, and era of service, plus the name of the sponsor at the bottom. The banner is double sided with the same information on each side.

A minimum of 32 banners will be displayed along Main Street light poles, which will hang above the sidewalk. Main Street is the only location at this time. The Recreation Board cannot accept requests for specific pole locations. 16 will be installed at the end of PennDOT work on the West end of Main Street from Franklin Street to the park, estimated end of 2017. 16 will be installed on Main Street from Franklin to Arch Street after PennDOT work is complete in that section, estimated to be end of 2018.

The Recreation Board will take banner orders on first come / first serve basis.

More than 32 requests will be added to a waiting list for the next round, or next phase of banners. No down money required. People on the list will be contacted when additional banner spaces are available and payment would be needed at that time to secure a pole.

Banners are available for current active military personnel, or previous military veterans with appropriate proof of service. The picture of the honoree for the banner needs to be in military uniform. Any Fleetwood resident can purchase a banner honoring a direct family member. Anyone can purchase a banner to honor a current or former resident of Fleetwood. A Fleetwood based group or businesses can also sponsor a banner.

The banner will be up for a minimum of two years. The length of time will be determined by any waiting list or additional banner requests going forward. When complete, the banner is returned to family / sponsor.

Cost for each banner is $170. Applications are available online at FleetwoodBoro.com and borough hall. Completed applications with all required documents will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis. Applications submitted without proof of military service, residency requirements, or pictures submitted of the honorees who are not in uniform, will be given to the committee for final consideration on an exception basis only. Monies refunded if application is denied.
