EXETER >> Two Pottstown women were arrested Saturday after an incident at Walmart that allegedly involved a retail theft and an assault on three employees.

Chuanetta Bradley, 25, and Celena Freeman, 43, have been charged after police say the pair attempted to leave the Route 422 Walmart with stolen merchandise after one of the women assaulted three loss prevention officers.

Police said Tuesday that at approximately 6:43 p.m. on June 18, a retail theft was reported at Walmart when employees saw a customer put items into a bag while only paying for a small amount of food items in the self-checkout line. When loss prevention personnel approached the customer she became loud and aggressive, police said. An altercation ensued and police say Bradley slapped one loss prevention employee in the face, pulled another’s hair and shoved a third employee.

Bradley then fled the store along with Freeman in a black 2003 GMC Envoy in an eastbound direction, according to police.

Officers managed to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle where they identified the women and determined that the items in their car, worth about $80, had been taken from the store without payment.

Bradley has been charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, robbery, simple assault, harassment and conspiracy. Freeman has been charged with retail theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property. Both women are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 5 before District Judge Sandra Fegley. Bradley’s bail was set at $75,000 and Freeman’s was set at $25,000. They are being held at Berks County Prison.
